Dr. Andrew Krakowski, Pediatric DermatologyDr. Andrew Krakowski – or “Dr. K” as he is better known to his patients and their families! – is both a board-certified pediatric and adolescent dermatologist as well as a board-certified general dermatologist. He is a lifelong learner, driven by a passion for patient care, education, scientific investigation, and innovation. Dr. Krakowski currently serves as the Network Chair of Dermatology at St. Luke’s University Health Network, and he is the Program Director for the ACGME-approved St. Luke’s Residency in Dermatology.

Dr. Krakowski graduated from medical school from the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Fulfilling his dream to care for sick children, he completed a full residency in pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institute, in Baltimore, Maryland. It was at Johns Hopkins that he realized pediatric dermatology was his life’s calling. At the suggestion of his mentors, he went West and completed a two-year research fellowship at Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego. He completed his second full residency in dermatology at the University of California, San Diego and was elected as chief resident by the program’s esteemed faculty. Next, he completed a one-year fellowship in clinical pediatric dermatology at Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego and stayed on as a pediatric dermatology faculty member there for five years, before returning to Pennsylvania to be closer to family.

Dr. Krakowski is the co-editor of The Scar Book, the first comprehensive textbook on scar formation, revision, mitigation, and prevention and the senior editor of the textbook, Pediatric Procedural Dermatology, published in 2021. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications including expert recommendations on the treatment of acne (endorsed by both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Dermatology, in 2013), two groundbreaking articles on laser-induced neocollagenesis in epidermolysis bullosa and Goltz syndrome, and the 2017 “expert consensus guidelines” that reversed 30 years of mythology regarding isotretinoin’s purported effects on wound healing. Most recently, he was named the co-chair of a national pediatric taskforce charged with exploring the ethical implications and psychosocial ramifications of performing minimally-invasive procedures on legal minors.

Dr. Krakowski has been an invited lecturer and course director for the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He is a section editor (procedural dermatology) for the Society of Pediatric Dermatology’s journal, Pediatric Dermatology, and the pediatric dermatology editor for Practical Dermatology and the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology. In 2010, the American Academy of Dermatology awarded him the Gold Triangle for public health service to the dermatological community for his work in eczema, and, in 2013, he received the inaugural “Dermatologist from the Heart” award from LaRoche-Posay for his service to pediatric scar patients.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Krakowski has served as a medical cartoonist for Practical Dermatology (“The Last Laugh”) and as a wilderness first-aid expert for Boys Scouts of America (BoysLife.com). He enjoys cheering for the Philadelphia Flyers, playing harmonica badly, and – above all else! – creating adventures with his beautiful and very patient wife, their two crazy sons, and their goofy yellow Labrador retriever.
